Snce 1993 The Abbey Panels Golf Society has organised an Annual Charity Day and for the first 18 years Oadby G.C. Leicester was the course played, then Whetstone GC hosted the competition for 4 years with Oakridge G.C. Being the competition course since 2015
The concept of the charity day was embraced by the society after we were presented with a trophy by a work colleague, Mr. Derek Godfrey, with the proposal that we were to play for it annually and any funds raised were to be given to the Walsgrave Baby Unit as a gesture of thanks for the care given to his son. We have since raised around £15000.. but now the current years Captain chooses which Charity receives the proceeds. Zoe’sPlace,Macmillan Cancer Support,Midland Air Ambulance,Mary Anne Evans Hospice are among the latest recipients.
